If you wish you understood dental care and oral health a little bit more, our Urquiola Dental Center PC team is more than happy to grant your wish! To help you, we have provided the definitions to the following common dental terms:
Dental filling: A dental filling is a restorative treatment that is used when your tooth has been attacked by tooth decay. There are different types of fillings available, but silver amalgam fillings and composite resin fillings are the most common. Composite resin fillings can also help reshape or disguise a tooth after it has been injured, discolored, or misshapen.
Dental crown: A dental crown is a restoration that is also known as a tooth cap. This cap is placed over a tooth that has been worn down, decayed, or broken. It covers the entire surface of the tooth, looks completely natural, and boosts the appearance of your smile.
Dental bridge: A dental bridge is a restoration that is meant to replace your missing teeth and fill the gap in your smile without the need for surgery. It is made of two dental crowns and one or more false teeth, and it is anchored by the remaining natural teeth that lie on both sides of the gap in your mouth.
Tooth decay: Tooth decay is a common but serious dental issue that attacks your teeth and causes cavities. It typically results from consuming too much sugar, not having a proper oral hygiene routine, and leaving plaque on your smile for a long period of time.
Gum disease: Gum disease is a dangerous dental issue that develops when you let the plaque on your smile grow and irritate your gums. There are different stages of this disease, and it’s best to get it treated as soon as possible. If you don’t, the disease could destroy your oral health and result in loose and lost teeth.
