When a cavity or general area of tooth decay goes ignored on one of your teeth, it can certainly pose a significant threat to the overall longevity of the tooth. Without timely treatment it can compromise the pulp and root of the tooth. This could lead to total tooth loss, or a tooth that is so severely decayed that Dr. Nancy Urquiola’s only viable course of treatment is to completely extract it.

Once your gums have completely healed. she can completely replace the tooth by installing a bridge.

This is one solid piece of dental work that essentially mimics the appearance and function of the original tooth. It is fused on each end to crowns, that will eventually be anchored to abutments formed from the two neighboring teeth.

An abutment is essentially the healthy internal core of the tooth, that is left behind after Dr. Nancy Urquiola removed the enamel. Once this is done she will make a detailed impression of the abutments and the corresponding teeth in your bite.

A temporary crown is then cemented over each abutment to protect it. The impression and any relevant X-rays will be sent to a dental lab where your permanent bridge is made.

Dr. Nancy Urquiola will call you back in for a brief second appointment when your bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed, and she will cement your new bridge onto the two abutments.

If you have a severely decayed tooth, you should call Dr. Nancy Urquiola’s office in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 734-973-7450 to explore your treatment and restoration options.
