Do you want to stay healthy? If so, you are not alone! Most people strive for a healthier lifestyle and want to stay healthy as they age. Did you know, brushing your teeth is an important part of your body and overall health? Well, it’s true! Here at Urquiola Dental Center PC in Ann Arbor, Michigan, our team is dedicated to helping you understand the importance of brushing your teeth, so your oral health can stay healthy for years to come!

Caring for your oral health includes brushing your teeth and should be done at least twice a day, for two minutes a day. This will keep plaque and bacteria from nesting in your teeth, so cavities can be avoided as much as possible. Flossing can also help reach between your teeth and deep along the gum line your brush cannot reach.

It is important to always remember your toothbrush should be changed every four to six months or sooner if you have an illness. Bacteria can survive living on your toothbrush, making it harder to keep your teeth clean. Also, by replacing your toothbrush when the bristles become really worn or frayed, you are keeping your oral health stay in top-notch condition. Bristles that are broken or worn down can’t clean your teeth, as well as fresh bristles on your toothbrush, can.

By not brushing regularly, you could be putting your smile at risk to gum disease. If gum disease occurs in your gums, you could experience things like persistent bad breath, tooth loss, red and bleeding gums, and even bone loss can occur in your jaw. That is why brushing is extremely important to do in your oral hygiene routine and in your everyday life.  If you still have questions about your smile or feel it’s time for a check-up, please call our office today at 734-973-7450 to set up an appointment with Dr. Nancy Urquiola.
