An extreme blow to the face can sometimes impart so much force that it shatters, cracks or otherwise breaks a tooth. Sometimes the tooth can be saved by having Dr. Nancy Urquiola perform a root canal. However, if the damage too extensive, then she might need to extract the tooth and allow the gums to heal.

One of the most effective ways to restore the broken and extracted tooth’s presence in your mouth is to install a bridge. This is single piece of dental work replicates the full function and appearance of the broken tooth. The replacement tooth is fused to a pair of crowns that are anchored on abutments formed out of the two neighboring teeth.

Dr. Nancy Urquiola will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each of the teeth to form a pair of post-like abutments. This creates a small protective sheath housing the healthy pulp, root and nerve of each tooth. Temporary crowns are then secured over each abutment to protect it.

Then she will create a detailed impression of the abutments as well as any other corresponding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab to help guide them as they produce your permanent bridge

When your new bridge is ready, a member of Dr. Nancy Urquiola’s staff will call you to schedule a second appointment. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new permanent bridge is cemented in place.
